A general Meeting of the Northampton Men’s Shed will be held on the 26th August 2026, at the Raillway Hotel Northampton, commencing at 1PM.

A general meeting has been called for this coming Wednesday, 26th August, to be held at the Railway Hotel, commencing at 1PM. The purpose of the meeting is to formerly elect people to the Treasurer and, potentially, Secretary roles until our next AGM, where all positions will, once again, be vacated. This is required by our standard rules (Constitution) and gives us continuity going forward.
Russell Heaton has declared an interest in the Treasurer role and Margaret Meagher the Secretary role but, of course, anyone may nominate at the meeting and a vote will duly be held.
We will also have to discuss the proposed stall at the Northampton Show. At this stage, with President Brian Veitch away, the logistics of getting organised for the show and running the normal containers business on the same Saturday morning, is looking somewhat fraught. All discussion will be welcomed.
With Brian away, the need for a person to run the meeting is problematic. I propose that I (Russell Heaton) resign as Secretary, allowing me to resume the role of Deputy President, to which I was elected at the last AGM. This role has been vacant since I was elected to the Secretary role, by necessity, because our standard rules do not allow any one person to simultaneously hold two executive roles. As deputy President, I can nominate a member to run the meeting, call a vote on it, and then resign as Deputy President, clearing the air for the rest of the election process. It sounds complicated, and messy, but it is necessary to comply with the Rules of Association.
